South Jersey Eye Associates Repeats 2010’s Well-Received School Eye Care Giveaway Program
Bridgeton, NJ (October 19, 2011) – For a second year running, South Jersey Eye Associates (SJEA) will be sending out complimentary contact lens care kits to school nurses in Bridgeton, Pittsgrove, and Elmer this month.
SJEA’s optometric physicians Dr. Robert M. Cole and Dr. Michael A. Feinstein were inspired to repeat last year’s program of distributing the Alcon OPTI-FREE® RepleniSH® care kits to area schools based on the overwhelming positive response they received.
“It comes in handy,” says JoAnn Knaub, a school nurse at Arthur P. Schalick High School. “Students are always coming to my office to reinsert their contacts or remove them because of irritation.”
Says Dr. Cole, “We were looking to fulfill what we saw as a real need. Having a lens care kit on hand is about more than just convenience. Improper contact lens care can lead to eye infections and other eye injuries. It’s especially critical for children and teens who can be lax about caring for their contact lenses. We were delighted that school nurses were able to put the kits to good use.”
Adds Dr. Feinstein, “Most school nurse offices just don’t have these kinds of supplies on hand. Particularly not in this economy. This is a small thing we felt we could do to help. We’ve been really gratified by the response.”
“We’d rather help the kids avoid the problems we sometimes see in our office,” says Dr. Cole. “We consider this a simple preventative measure that can save both children and their parents a bit of grief down the road.”
SJEA is sending the contact lens care kit to nurse’s offices at the following schools:

South Jersey Eye Associates Reaches Out to Elementary, Middle and High School Nurses in the Interest of Eye Care
Bridgeton, NJ (November 24, 2010) – South Jersey Eye Associates (SJEA) will be sending out complimentary contact lens care kits to school nurses throughout Bridgeton, Pittsgrove and Elmer this month.
SJEA’s optometric physicians Dr. Robert M. Cole and Dr. Michael A. Feinstein came up with the idea of distributing the Alcon OPTI-FREE® RepleniSH® care kits to area schools in order to fulfill what they saw as a real need.
Says Dr. Cole, “It’s not uncommon for a student or a faculty member to run into a situation where they need to remove their contact lenses, only to find that they don’t have any contact lens solution or a case handy. It’s a problem easily solved - if the school nurse has the supplies on hand.”
Dr. Cole and Dr. Feinstein are quick to point out that the problem is about more than simple inconvenience. Improper contact lens care can lead to a variety of potentially serious eye infections and other eye injuries. The issue is especially critical among children and teens who can be lax and take shortcuts when it comes to caring for their contact lenses.
Adds Dr. Feinstein, “Most school nurse offices just don’t have the resources to deal with these kinds of problems. Particularly not in this economy. This is something we felt we could do to help.”
“We think of this in part as a preventative measure,” says Dr. Cole. “If kids are taking care of their lenses, they’re taking care of their eyes. It’s as simple as that.”
